Cultivating Excellence is a tutoring centre/cottage school.
Our experience has shown us that the traditional method of teaching and schooling is becoming obsolete.

Schooling is not merely about passing your grades, but to
develop a clear understanding of what you have learnt and to be able to apply this knowledge.

We offer: small classes – online and face to face; qualified and experienced tutors; flexible curriculum; curriculum designed for each individual student; accelerated learning techniques and study skills; for students falling behind in their core skills, we offer specialised remedial teaching; critical, independent thinking, and physical and
creative activities.

Named the Sixth Municipal District of Cape Town in 1867, it was a vibrant cosmopolitan community with close links to the city and harbour. In 1966, the Group Areas Act (1950) confirmed District Six as a White area, displacing 60 000
people to the Cape Flats by 1982.

The Museum opened in 1994 and works with the history and heritage of forced removals. We render the personal stories of those who experienced the Apartheid removals in a severely tangible way. The Museum space is a living one – dedicated to working with memories and creating a city of people, not races.

Since 2012, I have been building an owner-operated communications company with a focus on media management in order to help businesses and non-state organisations build public awareness of their brands,
services, and products.

The trajectory of my career has made it possible for me to
develop an understanding of media and its unique production process, acquired in my support and management role in one of South Africa’s largest publishing houses.

My cooperative working style enabled me to build long-lasting relationships in the media industry, which have survived decades and have proven useful now that some of my then colleagues have become decision-makers in print and broadcast media in the country.

My clients have included: 10X Investments, South African Network of People Who Use Drugs, Resultant Finance, MoneyWorks, Daily Maverick, TB HIV Care

 BEVERAGES, CONFECTIONERY & FOOD

Bev, Confec, Foo

In 1993 a lady I worked with brought me a bag of figs from her tree, as well as a recipe to make jam. My jam-making endeavour was so successful that I tried my hand at apricot jam after I bought a bag of apricots for only R1 at the hawkers I passed by every day on my way to
work.

Twenty years later, my daughter asked me to make jams as gifts for her wedding guests, and that venture
re-ignited my love for experimenting with different fruits. I was due to retire at the end of April 2020 and decided to take my leave in March before I retire.

Then Covid-19 and lockdown happened, and I never returned to work... What started off as a hobby to keep myself busy, eventually blossomed into a small business called Av’s Jams.

Inspired by Grace was started during lockdown. I make jams and hot sauces. I started with making Spicy Chilli Jam and the business just grew from there.

ZestybyZahra is solely owned by Zahra Hendricks. I love
to experiment with spices and create new things which tantalise my taste buds – in fact, all my senses.

I started ZestybyZahra as an atchar/pickle business two
years ago during lockdown, after being in denial about this
passion of mine. I intend to create a cosmopolitan variation
of atchars and pickles, which in my view is good for the gut and overall health. I try to keep it as healthy as possible by using healthy oils to a minimum, cane sugar or dates, and sometimes organic vegetables.

I am currently selling my products at markets and from
home.

Chip ’n Dip was born in 1995 in Cape Town and based on a highly successful Dutch concept, “Patat
Frit”.

The essence of the concept is simplicity – fried potato chips covered with delicious sauces, and served in a unique coneshaped container. It started out as a mobile vendor which grew to stores – today we boast a range of
different products.

Masala Café, a family orientated business, started in November 2009. We saw the need for authentic Durban-style Indian food and snacks. We started with the Cape Town Diwali Festival, catering only vegetarian and vegan foods, and with the Good Food and Wine Show at the CTICC for fi ve years. Masala Café became a familiar brand at various markets and shows around the Western Cape.

To name a few, SA Cheese Festival, the Riebeeck Valley Olive Festival, Christmas in Winter in Tulbagh, Good Food and Wine show in Hermanus, and the ever-popular
Street Food Festival organized by Hannerie Visser. I was also invited to demonstrate making a curry on Afternoon Express in 2016.

Various catering functions and market attendance spread the word to grow our business. All our food is made from scratch and as authentic as it gets. No preservatives, soya, or MSG added.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic,I had to rethink how we do
business. As the national lockdown started on 27 March 2020, business came to a halt and April was a difficult and dreadful month with no income. We started taking online orders and delivering our own orders. We’ve had a tremendous support. Thank you. We look forward to keep
bringing you the best of Durban

WE LOVE COFFEE because we love people and serving.
Natasha and her daughter Kim did an extensive barista course and was intrigued and moved by the labour-intensive process – from seedling to cup.

“As baristas, we have to ensure we honour the people who laboured and the process itself, by extracting the best espresso shot we can – each time. Yes, we’ve become coffee snobs. We’re proud to be baristas...Baristas with Purpose.”

It’s more than just a “cuppa Joe” (sorry, Joe). It has various
aromas, intensities and flavours. It has the “special power” to create and build connections between people or even with oneself! Let’s meet for coffee...

My love for clothes stems from the huge respect I have for
women and what they stand for in their families as a mother,
wife, sister, friend – the list is endless… And somehow they lose track of taking care of themselves because they are so busy taking care of everyone else.

So, I have created a space at my home just for women. I call it “the feel-good room”! I think Oprah said, “If you take care of yourself first, you can take better care of the people you love.”

This philosophy has stuck with me! My goal for starting this venture was to make women feel special, appreciated, confident and beautiful!
