Love Seafood? The V&A Waterfront is excited to bring you their inaugural Makers Landing Seafood Fest taking place on Saturday, 1 and Sunday, 2 April. The festival aims to showcase and celebrate all things seafood. Visitors can look forward to a fresh fish market, demo classes, a variety of food vendors, live local music throughout the day and much more.

The V&A Waterfront’s SOLVE, in partnership with Mikateko Media (the publishers of Koe'sister magazine) and the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation will also host a series of panel discussions and demonstrations, delving deeper into how we as foodies, chefs, cooks, and everyday consumers can shift our behaviours to drive for a better, more sustainable future for our oceans and communities.

“Deeply entrenched in our food philosophy at the V&A Waterfront is the need for everyone to have a seat at the table, and to act always in a way that is just, equitable and sustainable. Our Seafood Fest will therefore also serve as a platform to stimulate a deeper conversation around the provenance of what we put on our plates, the communities, and livelihoods the seafood sector supports, and the impact our fishing and consumption habits have on our oceans,” says Henry Mathys, V&A Waterfront’s Social Impact and Food Ecosystem Head.

Visitors can enjoy a workshop with representatives involved in the seafood sector from Abalobi, the Marine Stewardship Council and the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment and more who will discuss “Simplifying seafood at the V&A Waterfront” on Friday, 31 March from 9:30am to 11am.

On Saturday, visitors can learn from the experts through the Sustainable Fish with Chef Reuben Riffel in partnership with I&J and Cape Hake filleting demos from master filleters. Chef Reuben will do a fish and dip demo on the Makers Landing stage at 11:00 and 15:00pm respectively. Dive deep into the lives of small-scale fisherwomen and decode fishing complexities panel discussion.

On Sunday, watch stage legend Terry Fortune make his famous pickled fish and learn to clean and fillet snoek like a pro with fisherwoman Michelle Singh. Guests can RSVP for the Demo Classes via Quicket or walk-in. The kids can step into the enchanted kitchen with the Charming Chef on Sunday at 11:00am where they will make fishcake burgers.

Guest can also look forward to live music curated by A11 on both days along with an installation by Studio H platforming the fisherwomen featured in the Beyond the Blue - Women of the Sea by Prof Moenieba Isaacs, Tracey Lee Denis and Ingrid Jones.

The event runs from 10am to 9pm on Saturday and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday. Entry to this event is free.
